@yardlet6 from yesterdayThanks for the answer. I suppose that they could have colored the Fleisher theatrical shorts. So far I have not seen any of them in color. I remember one that was a combination of animation and a live action story about a girly boy that was being bullied and gets advice from Popeye from the comic books, and it was in B&W. although I think the animation was in color.

Dang, I remember watching Beany and Cecil as a lad when it was NEW, as well as Space Angel, Clutch Cargo, Colonel Bleep on Zero-Zero Island, Space Patrol, Fireball XL5, Felix the Cat, etc.
I am old.

Er, the “Beany and Cecil Show” was broadcast in color.-Not every household had color-TV sets in the 1960s. I was one of them. We didn’t get color TV until 1974.

Beany and Cecil was originally a puppet show called “Time For Beany”. The late Stan Freburg did Cecil’s voice and Irv Shoemaker did the cartoon voice.

Did the “Thimble Theater” chase off the “Leakin’ Lena?”

“Excuse me, gentlemen, but it’s time for Beany.” (Attributed to Albert Einstein, reputedly a big fan of the show.)

I’ll be curious to see if Guy uses the Bullwinkle hand puppet that was used to fill in between the show and the commercials. One night (this was for Bullwinkle’s one season in primetime at 7 o’clock on Sundays 1961 – 1962), having some time to kill, the Bullwinkle puppet told the kids that, if they wanted to be sure to see Bullwinkle next week, they should reach up and pull those round things off the front of their TV sets. The following week, the puppet was back to tell the kids to glue those round things back onto the TV sets. And you never saw the Bullwinkle hand puppet on the show after that.

I remember the original puppet show. When it started, it was a local program on KTLA in Los Angeles (Channel 5).

“The Beanie and Cecil Show” was produced in the 1960’s by Bob Clampett (Best known for 30’s Porky Pig toons). It was later released in the 1990’s for a very short while by the man who brought you “Ren ’N Stimpy”.

…..“A Bob Clampet cartoon”…….In the mid 70’s Clampett would tour college campases and give lectures on the history of cartoons! Lectures on Kodal Carousel Slide Projectors(no Power Point).were fun. Others like Spanky MsFarland, Groucho Marx, Betty Paige, etc were hiting the colleges giving sold out lectures !! Nothing like this today. Were fun times(Penn State, Ohio State< U of PA for me)!!

I’m not sure Popeye’s unique accent is quite on-target — I don’t recall him ever saying “ix” to mean “it” — but the effort is appreciated.
