In light of what just happened in Bemidji, MN, this is very timely. A young man I know was hit by a really wild pitch doing warmups last year (really wild, the pitcher was throwing to him). He was immediately taken to the ER where he spent the night under observation. That was the end of baseball, and most other strenuous activities for him for most of the summer, but fortunately, he came out of it fine. But more and more awareness of the cumulative effects of brain trauma are now available.
