Red and Rover by Brian Basset for May 11, 2010
Transcript:
You're saying the dairy industry was behind the story of the cow jumping over the moon?! Yep, to tout their cows and sell more milk. They also planted the rumor about the moon being made of cheese. Although, I guess the lactose intolerance community's all right through that one.

I had to make sure it’s still on here too. This is always a good feel-good cartoon.

They used to be dairy farmers who grew other crops fed their cows on grass had names for every one and probably had pigs and chickens too.
Now it’s an industry. A model of mechanical efficiency. All for our “own good.” It’s so so comforting to think that they care so much for us that they’ve turned all those poor cows into machines. It fits though. They’re milking us for every thing we use to have.

@ poohbear8192,
I read recently that there was a study that found that cows which have names give more milk than cows that don’t. It was one of those studies that get reported as wastes of tax payer money, but the discovery is still an interesting bit of trivia.

poohbear8192, you need to look around a bit – those small dairy farms still exist, there are just fewer. It’s still possible to do business with them.

If the moon isn’t made of cheese then how do you explain the Milky Way?
