Considering the fact that slavery predates historical records, it is highly unlikely that every human on earth doesn’t have both slaves and slaveholders in their family tree. War has been a tradition every since human minds were able to form the concept of “us” and “them”, and once you have a defeated enemy and some work for them to do, making them a slave is the sensible thing to do. It’s a really recent notion that perhaps it’s not really very nice.
