I’m not sure I would call it a “favorite”, but it’s usually the first mother-themed song that springs to my mind because my father used to either sing it to my mother or request it played on radio request shows every Mothers’ Day as I was growing up: “M” is for the Million Things She Gave Me.
Not so much a mother-themed song; but quite a few years ago, a couple friends of mine wanted to pay tribute to their mother-in-law; so they pulled the old Ernie K. Doe song “Mother-in-law” out of the karaoke rack. How neither of them were aware of its lyrics was beyond me, especially since the song was more contemporary to their young adulthood than my childhood (being released in 1961) — and one of the two was a lounge singer in the city and the burbs for close to a decade; so I’d think he should have been familiar with the pop music scene in general.

Anyone got a favorite mother-themed song (not hymn)? I can’t think of one at the top of my head.
