Polecats can’t be too lonesome, or there’d be no more of them. :-)
Polecat is Southern U.S. colloquial for Skunk. Both are weasels. Skunk just smells worse than British Isles polecat. My Grand Mother always called a skunk a polecat. Many rural folk, especially the older ones, like me do the same.
