“2097? I thought in 2001 they found an obelisk, whatever that symbolized.”
No, the Washington Monument is in the shape of an obelisk. The monolith from 2001 was a big black rectangular prism with proportions (according to the book) of 1:4:9 …
The monoliths represented either catalysts for expanding human existensial knowledge, or markers
that humankind had achieved same.
Phone booths are getting pretty rare, what with them new-fangled cell phones and all.
In fact, I think the last person I saw using a phone booth was Michael Douglas as Gordon Gekko in “Wall Street”.
He was carrying it around and would hold it up to his ear.
Had a big antenna on it that would make a ham radio operator proud . No, wait- that was a cell phone, circa 1991…
If it works, that would definitely be a sign of an advanced civilization. The fact that the ones on Earth were constantly vandalized helped usher in the cell phone.

I don’t get this at all. A phone booth is not a sign of an advanced civilization?

It’s a symbol of our civilization, which many do not consider intelligent.

For those of you that don’t know, ‘the the Guardian of Forever’ was a time portal in one of the original Star Trek episodes.
