This is why you should pack one of those strings that hold your glasses to your head. I once lost my glasses in a lake at a family reunion and figured I need one of those things which I did get at a county fair.
I have always worn my glasses when swimming. It is easier than explaining why you just rammed someone broadside (or rammed a broad some side, to keep Marxist humor at bay).
I was thinking that a disaster, like the one you described, happens is because people might have had an idea about doing more than intended after they left the house. If they prepared for a trip, they might have taken some supplies…but in this case, I suspect, that they decided to drive farther just because they were already in the truck, and thought that they would like to see “what’s around that bend”…
