Dill: Lightning bug, lightning bug, What are you thinking? Fly into my open hand, And do some fancy blinking! Dill: Glowing little firefly, Floating through the night. Come and fill my open hand, with your uncanny light! Dill: You're taillight flickers off and on, As you flit about the lawn. Looking for a place to land? Park it in my open hand. Dill: None of my firefly calls are working. Dill: Maybe if I said please. Alice: Dill! Alice: You have to chase them. It's the rule! Dill: I said the magic word!

A real gentleman you are, Dil, with luminescent insects.

Dill has the magic! Alice is too impatient (as are many four-year olds)….

Dill is so sweet – and pretty smart to remember all those rhymes. Please is a good magic word.

The second rhyme is my favorite. Dill is a gentle soul. Are we sure he’s not adopted? He’s the total opposite of his brothers….

Yay for Dill – gentleness rewarded!
There used to be lightning bugs in St. Petersburg, FL, in the 40’s and maybe the 50’s. But I haven’t seen one here in years. Also meadowlarks. :- (

My daughter doesn’t need the rhyme, she’ll raise her hand up near one and they land on it… I don’t recall them ever doing that for me.
