A short-term injury causing pain should at least earn you an Ace bandage so people will offer to help you carry books give you a copy of your notes if it’s on your dominant hand, etc. I am disabled- use 2 canes or a wheelchair. I have constant pain from something else. To me it’s wanting to be seen as normal (and could you please sit down the 4 of you don’t see me and keep leaving me out of the conversation, it’s like being a kid again except that I am able to talk about your topic). But before that, yes, some outside symbol of the pain did get enough help and sympathy to make me feel cared for by those around me. Now I’m only telling my “inner circle” I’m having a bad day and saving it for the days when it really limits my functioning. Otherwise, i’m “Okay, how are you?”

Hard to get sympathy when you usually give none, eh Caulfield ?
