As a kid, I found myself locked out of the house on a couple of occasions. (You think I’d get the hint). As a kid, it only took me about 15 minutes to figure out how to break into the house.
And as for the transom window, when I was very young and staying with my folks in one of those hotels with door compartments, my parents went out for the evening and left me in the room with instructions to stay in the room and lock the door, and go to bed soon. I dutifully got ready for bed and figured out how the chain lock on the door worked! When my folks returned they called, knocked, banged on the door, but I was fast asleep. They finally got the bellboy (yes, a real bellboy – probably a teenager) who they hoisted up so he could crawl through the transom window and unlock the door. I knew nothing about all this until I heard the story the next morning.

Too late. The horse is out of the barn; or into the barn; or something.

I think I missed by calling by going straight.
