Well… Shirttail Creek was a very rich stream, that is a known fact; How did it get the name Shirttail?

The story has it that the miners would wear out the seat of their pants sitting on the bank panning, Rather than leave the creek to go get new trousers, they would pull out their shirt tails and let them hang down and cover their derriers

Like many legends, there’s a certain lack of logic. :-))

I checked my thesaurus. “postren was a bad choice of words which I will correct.

I also know that there is no way to contact any of them. I would run into them sometimes on the creej\k, or along the North Fork. Knew first names or nicknames, no contact info. I remember them, can close my eyes and call up faces but…… those faces were 35-45 years ago.

Five left.

As for the statements from the Trib Synd. that Annie will go on in other forms,… 1) My sensitive B.S. detector tells me to believe it when I see it; and 2) if it doesn’t involve long on-going storylines, it just won’t be Annie.

I’m not sure I understand your meaning. If you are thinking the old saying “op the creek without a paddle”. I assure you sir that there is no navigable water on Shirttail Creek until you get up to where they were building the dam for Sugar Pine reservoir aka Sugar Pine Lake.

If that was your thinking, then I should clarify what the Ballad of Shirttail Slim is about.

It is a short song about a person who prospected for gold. out in the Sierra foothills.

If you are suggesting that it is a bit of self-aggrandizing, you just might be right. :-)
