Toad in the hole is a traditional British dish, consisting of sausages in Yorkshire pudding batter, usually served with vegetables and onion gravy. - During the 1940s, a wartime variation on the original used pieces of Spam in place of sausages. - The recipe itself is rather simple but requires some skill to cook perfectly. A pan is placed in the oven and heated for about 15 minutes while the batter is prepared. The sausages and batter are added and cooked for half an hour. With frozen sausages, the meat is placed in the dish while heated. It is normally accompanied by gravy (often onion gravy), vegetables and potatoes, often mashed. —

Ignore the recipes above. Toad in a Hole is toast with a hole cut in the center and an egg fried in the hole. Me Mum was a London lass and she made it for us quite often.http://allrecipes.com/recipe/toad-in-a-hole/

I have never had Toad in a hole. The name sounds disgusting. Still I’ve spent a fair amount of time in Scotland and have never eaten Haggis either. Their whisky and beer is outstanding though.

I also enjoy Toad in the Hole. It’s yummy! Yorkshire puddings are best when the batter is crispy.

…"trying to be helpful i brought down my adjustable Black & Decker step ladder, when he told me he did not need it, I closed it the wrong way around and chopped the tip of my right thumb, "

This is why I have made a lifetime practice of NOT being handy around this house ! My father was an expert on not fixing things and I learned my lessons well. When in doubt , hire a professional – saves a lot of grief and aggravation and money in the long run.I am not a Mr. Fix It nor a ShadeTree Mechanic. If it’s broke, I ain’t gonna fix it. I have been fortunate enough to live with very clever and mechanically inclined people ( current wife included ) and am intelligent enough not to assist them unless asked, and then do only what I am directed to.It is no slight to my male ego to let my wife do the repairs. I am not lazy, just smart enough to know that those famous last words are : “*Don’t worry, this job’s a piece of cake !*”
