Right out of school, before I went off into the real world, I worked in Remittance for the phone company. No matter what, we had to be “doing something”; a lot of us would get a bunch of papers and pretend we were calling another department, gazing off into space with unplugged headsets.
In college, the guy who sat across from me would chatter incessantly, unless I was wearing my earbuds. One day, my batteries died in the middle of lab. He never knew the difference.
