Phoebe and Her Unicorn by Dana Simpson for June 30, 2015
June 29, 2015

Transcript:
Phoebe: What d'you suppose is on the other side of that water?
Marigold: Fish.
Phoebe: Horizontally, not vertically.
Marigold: I am sure there are fish in China.
I remember standing on the shore of the Atlantic as a very little girl, wondering the same thing (horizontally, not vertically!) I think someone told me “France.” I tried to visualize it…. Looking at the globe, Spain / Portugal would have been closer, given where I was standing. From where Phoebe is standing (PNW, I believe?), she’d be looking at northern Japan / Manchuria. Live and learn…
If you take “horizontally” to mean straight ahead… you end up somewhere in space. Though possibly you go “to infinity and beyond!” without hitting much. if you have it follow the curve of the Earth at your eye level the results vary by the exact angle each is looking from

But if this were the Atlantic Ocean, you’d see fish in Greenland, Africa or Portugal.

Her being on the beach reminds me of the big climax of “The Last Unicorn” …

Marigold needs a wind machine spell; windblown is a great look for her.

I hate those Chinese fish so much, stealing jobs from hard-working American fish. You know, all the…swimming jobs?

Just as long as there are no crappie jokes. Then the comments might flounder.

What’s wrong with fish jokes? We like to do them just for the halibut.
