    In the Depression and WWII, it was ‘Conservation Soles’ from ground-up tires, on your boondockers, quite long-lasting. Tire Sandals are awesome, maybe even longer-lasting (but watch out for Steel Radials!)

    I prefer leather boots myself made with tire rubber soles also lined with deer hide leather . . . Cheap, IF you have access to a heavy duty sewing machine and some cobblers tools.
