Loki (gender-shifting “brother”) would most likely be more properly referred to as “sibling” or some other gender-neutral term. Although they were always called brother in the Edda, so probably considered correct usage there.
Loki is described as the son of Laufey the giantess and Odin, and only changed gender once to become a mare to lure away a stallion that was helping a giant build Asgard’s wall so the giant would lose the wager that would have won him Freyja for his bride, as well as the sun and moon. In every other story and reference, he is referred to as male. This wasn’t a ’let’s flip a coin for the shape of the day’ thing…
