It’s a dog thing to follow your nose where every it goes.

My Cat is that way. A whistle might get a glance but shake the treat pack and she runs. Dog’s nose on ground and she listened to the nose not the ear

We live outside city limits in central Texas. When we were caring for our son’s Beagle, he would regularly go walk-about, sometimes gone for hours. One day he came back looking more like a Basset Hound, and bearing fang marks from a rattlesnake on his forehead. Fortunately, he had received the Rattlesnake vaccine, and with veterinary care, he survived, but to this day he bears a scar on hit forehead looking curiously like the one that Harry Potter has.

The first Fred Basset cartoon I saw (years ago) was very like today’s. Fred was sniffing behind a hedge and the owner was calling and calling. Fred’s thought bubble said: “ah he has such a lovely voice. I will always know exactly where he is” Later when training dogs to come that line gave me insight. At the park I hid and made them find Me :)
