I live in an apartment complex and a couple of my neighbours have beagles. If they’re properly socialised and get enough exercise and fun, there’s no problem. I do know that a bored beagle (or any other bored dog) gets hyper and noisy and can become destructive. But that’s not because they’re “bad”—they’re just bored. They’re just like kids—if they don’t have anything to do, they will find something.
OK, I’m a little confused. I’ve been reading the Peanuts Begins comics and it doesn’t even seem like Snoopy was Charlie Brown’s dog when the strip first started. So why is he so shocked?
I agree with the comments on understanding and making a commitment when getting a dog! As a person who has rental space in my home, I would add that I don’t understand why so many people who aren’t in a place to put a permanent roof over their head saddle themselves down with cats and dogs that then make it hard to get an apartment. Just freakin’ wait until you’re settled and truly on your own! I don’t want your dog or cat living in my house, especially since I don’t know how well you take care of it.
And while shelter dogs certainly can be great, I will continue to defend the idea of getting a (well-bred) purebred dog from a reliable breeder. Mutts are pretty much a “wild card”, where with a purebred puppy, you have pretty good idea what the temperament and behavior of the adult dog will be like. If I’m going to dedicate over a decade of my life to a dog, I want some control over the outcome.
Our dog, Buddy (a Jack Beagle), has a lot in common with Snoopy. He takes over the top of the couch like Snoopy lies on top of the doghouse. He is a used dog, too. Someone abandoned him at the post office several years ago, and when we came along he claimed us. A marvelous dog.
Reasons to adopt an adult dog:1.It either is house broken or the pound will tell you it isn’t.2.You get to feel like you’re doing something nice.3.You know how big it’s going to get.4.They have all their vet bills paid, and that can get expensive.5.You know what the vet found out as to congenital defects, diseases, etc.6.It’s way cheaper than buying a dog.7.It has an established personality. If you want Cujo, you can find him, but you won’t get stuck with him accidentally. (Shame we can’t work something out so we adopt kids after they get through with being teenagers)
But the Peanuts Begins strips remind us that in the beginning, Snoopy sort of just wandered around in the neighbourhood, being in one house after another, but it was never clear who owned him. Definitely not Charlie Brown. I guess Schulz ignored that part.
I have never had a pet in my life. I would either get a dog or a horse. Most likely a dog because it’ll be easier to look after.Sorry to any cat lovers here but I really don’t like cats. My uncle thinks they are sly and I couldn’t agree more!xxx
My last dog was a second hand adult dog that I had known since she was a puppy. Chelsea had belonged to my brother and his first wife. After the divorce she was one of the few things my brother retained. He got involved with a woman who lived in British Columbia so he – and Chelsea – moved out there. he and his girlfriend (and her son) lived with her parents while their new house was being completed. Chelsea was a good dog but she tended to bark a lot. The son was also a problem, teasing and sometimes pulling the dog’s tail. Greg was persuaded to buy a shock collar to get her to stop barking against my advice (I hate those things). It didn’t stop her from barking so he got an ultimatum from his girlfriend’s parents: either get rid of Chelsea or have her put to sleep. I was soft-hearted enough to not want that to happen so Chelsea came back to Saskatchewan to live with me. A few months later, so did my brother. When he eventually moved out the dog stayed with me. I had to have her put to sleep a couple of years ago – cancer – but I still miss that silly dog.
@Snoopy_FanHi Snoopy_Fan. I hope you are feeling better. I was thinking about you.-Not sure if you saw my comment to you on Saturday but I said I was going to post a couple of pictures of my CD and book that I got from Classic FM. However, I decided to send them to you in an email instead. Maybe next Friday on the 4th September…. If you get my drift?-Well, I don’t really know what else to say. Oh, I filled in an application for my DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) and I got a certificate in the post on Wednesday, I got the all clear. You probably have no idea what I’m talking about! A DBS is to check to see if you have a criminal record. I had to fill an application because I’m going to be a Volunteer Receptionist and all Volunteers must have a DBS check. My record was clear but I’m sure you can’t imagine me getting in trouble with the police!-I’ve decided to take driving lessons after I’ve turned 21. Everybody is saying that I should but at the same time I’m going to be really scared and I don’t know whether it’ll be worthwhile to put myself through that. If I ever get a car and you happened to come to North East, England, we could meet up and we could go on a road trip. That would be awesome…..Oh, sorry, I was stuck in my fantasy world. I’ll keep you updated nearer the time I take my lessons.-Like I said, I hope you are feeling much better now and that you’ve still been reading my comments. -I hope you have an absolutely amazing weekend. Love you.

Well now Snoopy has his own multi-level doghouse with a pool table, walk-in closet etc. Much better than an apartment.

Willie in One Big Happy was a second-hand dog. I think Dad knew the family and they couldn’t take him when they moved.

Dogs aren’t pre owned, they just get adopted to a new family. Many times, it is the dog’s choice, afterall

Didn’t you know, Snoopy became the WWI Flying Ace because he was returned to the Daisy Hill Puppy Farm.
More accurately the comment refers to the real world.
