Man 1: Now, Peter, the thing to keep in mind with these "Star Wars" fans is they're just ordinary people, mostly. Sure, they like to dress up in costumes, and wave plastic lightsabers, and give standing ovations to the Lucasfilm logo. And sleep in sidewalks for tickets. But other than that, they really are just like you and me. Man 2: At last we will reveal ourselves to the restroom. Man 1: ...only insane. Peter: Mr. Maul, sir? You dropped your straw.

another example of the thin line between genius and insanity.

Confirming my belief that Star Wars fanatics exist so that Trekkies have someone to look down on …

I’m Treker, a 99er, and a Star warrior, not to mention a Babylonian.
And I’m sane?

I was 10 when Star Trek first came on. I’ve been into every SyFy show since – every Star Trek, every Star Wars, Babylon 5, from Battlestar Galatica to every Stargate.
I was born in the wrong century AND in the wrong solar system.

The proper term it Trekie. Gene said so himself. Trekkers are next gen fans that where to embarrassed to call themselves by the proper title.

My husband insists he remembers seeing Return of the Jedi in the theater when he was 2 years old; he lined up for tickets and saw all of the prequels at the midnight showing; he’s gone to several Star Wars conventions; and his Star Wars action figure collection is so large that it’s outgrown our spare bedroom and will soon be moved to the basement….. yet he thinks it’s silly to dress up to see the movies in the theaters!

Never saw a Star Wars movie. Everyone says I should see the first on big screen. Huh? Movie came out when? The only place I’ll see it is at 2 AM Insomnia Network.

“Trekkers” are those folks who hike the Appalachian Trail and cut the handles off their tooth brushes to save weight.

Peter knows them better than the manager, since he lives with one!

“trekkers” predates Next Gen, and was originally used to indicate ST fans who were also fans of science fiction in general. “trekkies” was used to denote those who liked ST and only ST and had no use for other science fiction.

yyyguy,
I have not heard that before. Regardless, when Gene Rodenberry was asked about the subject he said it was trekkies, “I ought to know I invented the thing.”

Good news for those too young to have seen the original Star Wars in theaters. George Lucas is planning on re-releasing the original trilogy in 3D I think in 2012. Please George spare doing the prequels redone in 3D

I still bow at the altar of “Forbidden Planet”. Double sigh.

God bless the great mind and exquisite taste of UBUBOBU. Had “Forbidden Planet” on VHS and now DVD - still drag it out once a year or so. Amazon has it on Blu-Ray now for $19 - I’m sorely tempted… BTW, UBU, I also have the old audio book (which is mainly the cast dialogue from the movie - I’m not really sure what the purpose of the dialogue with no movie was, unless to listen to FP on trips).
