And Phil? For sure he didn’t catch the cold bug too after that spiel.

I would hope that this recognition of how precious life can be sticks with him, and mellows his actions in future, but I kind of doubt it…

This was a unusual situation the charecters were involved in..I am wondering if there was a real similar incident that occured in authors life..Ms. Johnson..

Lynn’s Notes:One outstanding part of the story was the role played by the Search and Rescue team. What a wonderful, resourceful, brave and caring lot they are. For a long time, we kept in touch with the men who found and helped Rod and his friends to safety. How can you thank people who risk their lives for a living? We would be forever in their debt.

This is from one of her notes. I think Rod was her husband back then, whom she many years later divorced.

Again, the story of the rescue was chronicled in the strip. Rod and the others did find it hard to fend off coughs and colds after their ordeal. The legacy of the accident will last all of us a lifetime. We are all so sure that “it won’t happen to us,” but when it does, we learn to appreciate every day — knowing how fragile we really are.

I thought it was Phil’s canoe… ?

The canoe washed up on shore empty, which was what triggered the search in the first place.

He looks terrible unshaven, he should grow a beard and look terrible all of the time.(yes, I have a beard but I’m just lazy)

There is a big difference between hazardous and dangerous. With working on towers, going to remote mountaintops in any weather and any time of night, and working in high voltage substations my job in IT for an electric utility is very hazardous… but the only dangerous thing we do is driving. We can manage the hazards but not the dangers of the road. Being able to plan how to manage the hazards makes all the difference.

According to Wikipidia, Rod Johnston was Lynn’s second husband, she divorced her first husband, but they don’t say anything about her divorcing Rod.
