…NASCAR has a strong history of getting rid of things that it no longer needs… it banned smoking advertisements( i.e. Winston Cup ) …exciting racing ( replacing it with the green/white/checker )…
Ah, the good old days of NASCAR, when all of the drivers were related to moonshiners, no one north of the Mason–Dixon line could understand their language and each driver had two first names, the second of which was always Bob.
They only banned Cigarette ads when the ads were Banned from Television. They Wanted the Money from having the races on Television. The TV networks had told them that any Camera Angle that showed a Tobacco Ad in the background could not be Used and that was about Half the Track at most racetracks. At least Half…
@Tarred—-It was not only TV ads that were banned. ALL tobacco related advertising of any kind was banned. It included print & TV, & everything else. The tobacco companies could also not give out or sell any advertising related products—lighters, hats, T-shirts, etc. (other than their product packaging of course) with any of their logos or advertising on it. I still have some Marlboro items with their name & logo on it. Probably real collector items now.

Isn’t it great fun to be able to use an issue as cover for putting down your inferiors?
