Apparently, Diet thinks you can put the genie back in the bottle, but the threat of Mysta being kidnapped makes him say that “there are some ‘relics’.”
All I can say is that it’s a good thing for Méliès that he hasn’t kidnapped Mysta yet, or his boss wouldn`t have an leverage.
In reference to yesterday’s many comparisons of Bribery to character actor Franklin Pangborn, I can see that. But, in my opinion, if the part of Bribery were cast in a new Tracy movie, my vote would be for the fashion guy, Tim Gunn! (Anyone have a photo to post?)
Bribery didn’t actually knowingly kidnap Diet, and he’s being civil, just offering a trade……seems a tad nicer than before. Uhhh…. but wouldn’t he have warrants galore? Making his existence and whereabouts known to Diet…. dummmmb move…
Yeah Diet gave up way to easy…I don’t doubt Diet still has a coupe or three stashed away somewhere but he’s way to savvy to give up that easy, regardless of his feelings for Mysta…unless he wants Mr. B(ribery/igg) to think that’s his weak spot.
Diet either crumbled really fast once a little Mysta-pressure was applied, or, as some have suggested, maybe he has a trap laid (though how he could have foreseen this particular need before his 3:00 AM kidnapping is unclear).Either way, if he was honest about destroying all moon-related technology, what the heck is a warehouse full of “relics”?! A huge self-contradiction if “relics” means flying cars and space coupes!
He said that he had relics. But I notice that he didn’t say they were working.-—————————————————Diet’s actually been pretty evasive. Yesterday saying there was nothing left in Smith Industries, while leaving open the door for the things to be elsewhere, and now his reference to ‘relics.’
I’m sure Diet would keep at least one flying Space Coupe and parts for repairs because of his concern for Honeymoon and Mysta, and the remote chance they may need to try to contact the Lunarians (as difficult as that may be).
Man, oh man just hung up the phone with the one and only Gweedo and what a pleasure! … just gotta say Mr Bigg is a first class stinker and I hope Sam C. & Dick T. get to put him in cuffs. Peace to all the DT family & friends.
I’m guessing the ‘relic’ is the ‘Project Blue Sky’ (or whatever it was called). Bribery or his crew go in, end up on the platform, and Diet flips the switch, sending them to who-knows-where… muahahaha
From Yesterday Willy009 said . . ._"Thanks, Syd. As you mentioned, the air cars were invented by the Moon people and donated directly by the Moon people to the police. Diet was never the go between.
It’s true that Diet Smith Industries later came up with their own souped up version of the air car (2 man model), but even with those, Diet would have had no right or authority to confiscate the air cars from the police simply because he decided not to produce them anymore. That would be like Ford trying to confiscate all Crown Victoria police cars simply because they no longer produce that model-——————————————————
No wish to be unfair in any way, to Max Collins. His Dick Tracy - right Out the Box, from 1978, was SOLID stuff right up to Ownley Chylde (1981).
Thereafter, it seemed to lose it’s extra sharp edge . . . later there’d be unique villains on occasion (e.g. Putty Puss, Snake Eyes) and further good stories,But the initial (sit ‘right up’) Roller Coaster which started with Angeltop along with the Brow’s Son was over !<p.Some think Max diversified his talents into too large a pool, too many things at the same time, and Tracy lost it’s everyday, razor sharp refined focus ! ?It was acceptable, but the better DAYS had gone !
Sadly too, some got the “sense” that early success went to his head ! ? Clearly, his “LIVELY” impressive start, put Gould’s more ‘light-hearted’ (Perfume Plenty dominated) -18 month run which followed on Pucker Puss,
What ‘struck’ this reader at the time was that Collins had no difficulty “squashing” characters Gould prized, but Collins felt did not fit comfortably in Dick Tracy strip as through “his eyes” !Moon Maid was the first to go. It’s ‘said’ he always ‘though’ Junior should have married Sparkle and with Junor now available, it was time to get Vera Alldid out the way,And so un-characteristically he became a cad and ran off with another woman.Vera never was anyone favourite character, but Max Collins couldn’t spare a panel, to show him leaving ?
Worse the ‘kinder’, ‘thoughtful’ side of Vera - expressed back in 1975, with pillow tight ‘hugs’ and warmth at Sparkle’s Hospital Bedside, has never re-emerged under the Curtis pen, only the darker side . . .the one hat Max ‘chose’ to discover ! ? ?
That’s my Soap Opera Training kicking in: “Always watch for couplings with maximum dramatic potential.”
Don’t forget that the original Moon Maid used to write for comics. In theory, she and Vera Alldid would at least have had something in common to talk about.
In the back of my head, there’s also the real-life parallel of Shania Twain’s husband leaving her for Shania’s best friend [… Though why anyone would leave Shania Twain is a mystery] with Shania later ending up with her former best friend’s discarded husband.
As one who read the Bribery story line at the original time it occurred back in ’66, I can confirm that Bribery never intended the twins to build the craft, just steal one.(The twins were relieved to hear that as originally they DID think Bribery wanted them to build one.)

Vera Alldid was a character in the strip when I’d first encountered it – on an irregular basis – in newspapers.
I’d entirely missed his “Heel Turn” during the Collins era, so have to agree his current portrayal is rather jarring.
Most people – and characters – exist as shades of gray.
Be ironic if – after a little on-camera softening and redemption – he ended up romantically entangled with Moon Maid.

Not a perfect parallel, but very soapy.

It would also be massively galling for Tracy if Vera Alldid ended up dating Bonnie Braids.
