My grandmother kept a diary for several years as a young wife. I had the opportunity to read them after she passed away, and she was very meticulous about recording memorable events. She did not, however, make an entry every day, just those that had something happen that she wanted to remember. My mother’s birth was there as well as some of her babyhood milestones.
