I was thinking exactly what Joe said - I don’t mean about what type of Federal funds the Tulsa Housing Authority gets, but about Elderpark’s personnel budget.
But it might not be that Evelyn’s son found that much extra money - it might just be that Ms. Overdunne is not totally savvy about how much she can afford to spend for Elderpark.
Either way, I hope Evelyn says Yes. I don’t recall that she might actually need the salary, but she seems too easily depressed and she could probably benefit from having the new responsibility.
Shytimes, you might not get any answer from Joe. Why?
I happen to think Joe is more shy than you in one way -
I’ve seen him mention only very rarely what is wrong with him, which I assume is the traumatic brain injury when his head was hit from behind. Just like all the rest of us, I think, he’d rather enjoy and share what’s right with him. GoComics apparently strikes him as being a perfectly fine hobby. Whether or not he thinks he has a residual injury and it’s detectable by his readers on a blog, for me it’s enough reason to just let him be. (At least, unless and until I go visit him and find that he is a rude selfish SOB. And that would really surprise me.)
I knew a nice regular guy who wore a lapel pin “How dare you presume I’m a heterosexual!” - and I realized that I had been presuming exactly that, and that it might have made him feel bad at times.
We can’t expect everyone to announce their private lives like that, or even to understand themselves well enough. It’s kinder to assume that they might possibly have a valid excuse to be as they are. And it’s more realistic to assume that we can’t change all the people we meet. Even though it requires restraint, faith and patience on our part.
We might as well. There’s no gain anyway in telling off a boring person, or replying angrily to spammers, or whatever. Better to patiently restrain ourselves from reading what we can’t stand to hear.
I know I don’t pay the same to belong as you geniuses do, but I thought it was probably good for everybody if you get an actual answer to your question.

Her benefits are probably “room and board”. Salary good question!

Ms. O can just remove Evelyn’s salary from the food budget.
