Actually, 2Old must have posted an image from a website that doesn’t allow hot linking.
When you post a picture here, you’re not actually loading it onto the GoComics servers, you’re posting the web address of where it’s stored on another website.
Every time someone opens the page, they’re actually linking to that address… and viewing it there.
Some sites have limited bandwidth, like PhotoBucket, which will expire your pictures in older forums…amateur or free websites sometimes have limited traffic, too…. And some sites, no matter how much they have, just don’t like to share.That was common 10 years ago when bandwidth was more limited and expensive.
The site 2Old posted from is evidently in that last category…. so when someone links to one of their pictures, they replace it with this lovely admonition.
I believe I might know what 2Old intended to post…I found it on another website…And then it turned out, of course, that they were not willing to share either…In fact, they filled this comment box with pages and pages of code, too much to delete….I had to close the page and come back.
So that made me curious…
I managed to save the picture….I think …
and put it on another host…one that doesn’t care about bandwidth for a little .gif….
if this doesn’t work I give up!Well, for now anyway.
