@Jake Fogg — The anniversaries of battles that killed far more than 3000 routinely pass without notice. What happened in 2001 was not remotely like the attack on Pearl Harbor, because that was immediately followed by successful assaults on the Philippines, Wake Island, Singapore, etc. What happened on this date in 2001 was just an act of mass murder that was a personal tragedy for thousands but did no more than frighten the country as a whole. Its worst effect on the nation was to drive the last nail into the coffin of constitutional restraint of the government.
Since al Qaeda had no follow-up, and were rapidly driven to having would-be terrorists try to light fuses to their shoes or underwear and even failing to do that successfully, it was completely inevitable that the sting of the memory would fade for most people. Think about this on Armistice Day, which once had a clear and deep meaning but now is basically just a bank holiday and 2nd-class generic patriotic holiday.
You Say Happy Birthday or Happy Christmas. But you DO NOT treat the anniversary of such a tragic event in the same way. PEOPLE LOST THEIR LIVES what is “happy” about that.??

Note, Arlene, that the comic strip doesn’t have your name as its title.
