Internet “advertising” of this sort is so cheap (free for spammers) that if just one kook replies, it may justify the effort– despite millions being annoyed. Clovia, one advantage of the newspaper is that the advertising is more reputable… overall.
LOL OK whmill…Hopefully it won’t happen to me, but it is possiible…I enjoy both online papers and the “real thing”. I just hope the “real” papers don’t go away…online is nice but can’t take the place of actually holding a paper, and all the other things that it entails (besides lining a bird cage! :) )
It does seem odd in a way that the newspapers use a double-standard for print editorials and internet postings, in terms of using real names for one and a screen name for the other. Predictably, some of the most inflammatory remarks are made anonymously. I believe there is a general phenomenon of “internet muscles” and “internet brains”; when someone has to take responsibility for remarks, they tend to be more, well, responsible.
Moved recently and used newspapers to wrap around the dishes to keep from breAking. Since the PC offered no soft protection to packing, the PC were hand carried to the car with monitors and a blanket available if needed to keep it from scratching. Not that paper is all bad , in fact before indoor plumbing Sears catalogs were used back on the farm.
Everything becomes obsolete in time.
Slim and Clovia are hitting their 60s and are drawn looking like couple in their 40s. I remember when Nina and Skeezix in their 60s and they had touches of gray and lines of age on their faces.
My high-school principal looked like Slim for most of my years there, but then he lost a lot of weight over one summer. I still remember thinking how much he had suddenly appeared to age! The extra weight in his face had apparently kept the wrinkles at bay. Perhaps Slim’s weight keeps him looking young. I have no explanation for Clovia’s appearance other than that she’s just adorable.
