Thanks! I’m going to itch all night.

Can’t see ‘em, so it’s like Ken Ham says with such penetrating logic and insight, “How do you know? Were you there?”

And yet dark matter is all the rage.

For those who may not be familiar with the term, no-see-ums is colloquial term for sand gnats, tiny insects that cause itching and pain when they bite.

Today’s strip is a tough one for coming up with other strips on a similar theme. Here are some attempts.

No-See-Ums: I haven’t heard that expression in years, but I’ve not been to a sandy – beachy area either. I miss the smell of seaweed on a hot summer day.

Here in northern Maine we have no-see-ums, not in sand, but in the woods. I believe even Thoreau wrote about them. You can’t see them, but they give you many small burning itches…still better than black fly bites.

We cannot see everything, but we can feel it. We can feel the bad effects, when we didn’t act correct!- Therefore confession is important, we are forced to think about our deeds, to regret and to change, what hasn’t been so ok!

In the south we have too-small-to-see biting insects in the woods that we call “chiggers”.
@Hobbes, great job finding thematically related comics for today! :)

It is probable that neutrinos have mass, just very small.
rentier over 9 years ago
Oh yes, they are disgusting and the inch hurts!!
Alexander the Good Enough over 9 years ago
Neutrinos make me itch!! (Talk about no-see-’ums!) Actually, while I can’t touch the math involved, I rather suspect that all of this Dark Matter/Energy business (and the observations are certainly real enough) may in fact be some effect from one of the hypothesized higher dimensions that may be part of the whole universe. Certainly that would likely result in the “Dark” phenomena being particularly difficult to analyze and understand, and it may indeed require another revolution in theoretical physics.

“We rely on sight to confirm the existence of things. We don’t believe in things we can’t see.”.Right..Tell it to Stevie Wonder.

How does he know he’s itching if he can’t see the itch?
Susie Derkins :D over 9 years ago
You probably walked into something that you are allergic too.

My experience with no-see-ums is suddenly there is blood running down your neck and then the itching starts. I also landed in a hospital in Canada because I had huge knots behind my ears from the little draculas.

Obviously, seeing is not essential—you can sense them in other ways—chiggers or no-see-ums by their itching, and so on.
Not an ontological quandry, except for those who refuse to believe in anything beyond the material world.
