There’s a whole industry devoted to taking pictures of food for menus and ads. In some cases they do things like add “grill” stripes to meat with a wood burning kit. In some cases it’s a substitute food such as mashed potatoes standing in for ice cream. In other cases what you are looking at isn’t food at all. Mmm, that old crankcase oil looks rich and chocolaty.
That’s why what you get on your plate doesn’t look like the picture. It’s probably why they take your menus before serving you so you can’t do a comparison.
