And if that wasn’t a ‘shakedown’ just exactly what WAS it?
It certainly wasn’t done on purpose, and that being the case, if Obama would STOP the useless, immoral, illegal, futile wars he is perpetuating and spend the money instead on helping clean the problem up, we’d ALL be a LOT better off!!
But that ain’t the way politics works, is it!
‘Sorry’, but I’m just an engineer, not a politician!!!
One of the things that you learn from life is the importance of precedent(s) and not just in the legal sense of things. As an amateur historian, it saddens me how far we have gotten away from formerly strict rules and into such gray areas. Obama is hardly the 1st but when you use ‘emergencies’ to make new precedents, you really should consider how that same precedent could be used by your opposition when they come to power. It is bad Juju all the way around!
I surfed the TV morning news programs today and must have heard the words “oil spill” at least 250 times. Does that count toward the 500?
Radish is ignoring the fact that the reason oil companies have to drill a mile underwater is because the Greenies have driven them off terra firma and far out to sea. (It would be a good thing if they were Wreckless because then there’d be no wreck; so far we don’t know if they were Reckless. Nice airplane though; never saw a 2-engine flying wing.)
And yes, the demand for BP to supply billions for the FEDS to give out is not only extortion, it is unconstitutional. But what corporation nowadays has the moral courage to stand up for its rights, least of all BP?
UBUBOBU, That is precisely the reason to pick on him!!! It would be nice if he could do SOMETHING, but he’d have to take his hands out of our wallets to do that!!!
There’s an article on the front page of the local paper this morning that says that the Coast Guard STOPPED 16 oil sucking barges because they didn’t have proof of certified inspections.
OUR USELESS GOVERNMENT at work and MIRED IN BUREAUCRATIC RED TAPE as always!!!!!!
First of all, calling people nasty names doesn’t solve anything.
Second, do you have a degree in geology to back up this claim of yours? If so, I’m sure that the oil companies would be happy to hear from you as to just exactly WHERE to look for all this oil!!
I’m definitely not an authority but I find this entire situation so grievous–people, animals, etc. We use petroleum products in more ways than we realize but there have to be rules and safeguards IMHO. It’s a horrible situation for all concerned. Bless the wonderful volunteers!
I feel the same way after finding out that no less then 13 countries volunteered to help cleen up and contain the leak and they were told to ‘bugger off’ by our government because the rich union bosses are more important then jobs, and the environment in the golf. BP might have a lot to account for, but so do the feds.

To some extent, I’m on BP’s side.
It’s sort of a case of: “Do you want the oil, or don’t you?”
And BEFORE you say that you don’t, just consider what life would be like if you didn’t have it!!!

Maybe Alaska? They can’t drill there either!
