Bub—the first air pirate? This is incredible. I see later period Herriman circa Stumble Inn sprinkled with children from the pen of Jimmy Swinnerton. Amazing!

Fast question. Are there any Lowry pages in either Forgotten Fantasy or Socierty is Nix? (I’m not being lazy but I am physically away from my collection so I can’t check)

Very cool, glad you pointed out the signature, Bobby London definitely must have been familiar with this as well as Herriman!!!

London was a pinch of this, and a pinch of that. Lots of Segar added to the mix, too. I had to smile when he got Popeye to draw, because it was like he’d been preparing his whole life for the job. I was surprised at how soon he blew it.

Swinnerton’s a great cartoonist! His stuff has a solid feel to it that reminds me of Herriman too. I seem to recall that one of the original Krazy Kat pages I saw at an exhibit in Newark was inscribed to Swinnerton from Herriman.

That’s very minimalist dialogue in the fourth panel. Especially the kid.
