Dad: Ah, I have good memories of motels! Dad: Do you know why they're called super 8? Gracie: Because when originally launched in the 1970s, the nightly rate was $8.88! Dad: I was gonna say because we snuck 8 people into our room... But I like that explanation, too.

motels are one of those things that have gotten crazy expensive unless you’ve negotiated online or possibly in advance on the phone for a package deal

Every year when we drive through PA and Ohio on our way to Michigan, we pick up the coupon books at the “Tourist Information” stops. These are filled with coupons for discounts at various motels (Super 8 and Motel 6 included), and we usually stay the night for under $50 (with free TV, WiFi, and pool included).

I wouldn’t stay in a Super 8 room even if there was a pot of gold in there. Made the mistake in “94”. Never again. It looked ok from the outside, but inside, I could feel the dank, rank, stank crawling up my leg, or maybe it was the giante roach.
