Reminds me of when my brother opened a golf ball. Yards and yards and yards of rubber band-type stuff, and then a little rubber ball full of some kind of viscous, gluey liquid that stank.
Don’t think I’ve ever seen a football that was that easy to unlace. For that matter not sure I’ve seen the knot in the laces. Guess things were different in the ’60s.
The laces are there to help the QB control the ball, but otherwise are not functional. You cannot pull out the bladder by undoing the laces. (And there is no knot. The ends of the laces are tucked under.)

Did you know that if you turn one of those wire strainers inside out they still work, but not so well ’cause the weave gets out of place in the process? Well, now you know. (No, I did that as an adult. Curiosity just got the better of me.)
