My daughter would have KILLED to be able to take French in school in 5th grade! As it is, she’s using Duolingo.com to learn both French and Italian (she’s already finished French, but goes back for refreshers).
Fifth grade now, huh? I didn’t get first-year French until I got to seventh grade. Course was designed to stretch over two years, so that I was in second-year French when I started HS. But I dropped French after ninth grade; so I never got conversational.

had 1 yr in 7th grade, still comes in handy even if i’m not conversant. LOVED ordering food in France!
