My mother was always open about “gift disappointment”. The first Christmas my husband & I had together my mother gave him an Old Spice gift set. He thanked her nicely, but I said, “Mom, Old Spice makes him sneeze.” Before my husband could react, my mother took his hand and led him to her “gift stash” and told him, “It’s OK; pick something else!” My poor husband didn’t know what to do!
