I’m not sure what made Sabra’s nickname Stick around.

Nickname story: When I was in 3rd grade there were 3 Karens in my class. The teacher asked if 2 of us could go by nicknames to make things easier. One chose to go by Kay and I chose to go by Kitty (a family nickname for me). By the time I was in 6th grade most kids stopped calling me Kitty, but most of the teachers still did. One day, in gym, the teacher heard someone call “Karen” and I responded. The teacher stopped me: “Karen? Your name is KAREN?” I nodded. She said, “I thought your name was Kitty!”

I’m 6’7", first night in college, freshman year, I walked into the dorm room across the hall. One of the guys in the room said, “It’s a Tree!” the name stuck. For the next four years I was called Tree, even by the professors.

I knew a guy in high school whose girlfriend called him “Mr Holmes” and is had nothing to do with his mystery solving abilities or his last name.

At school & work I got a few nicknames from “Red” to “Einstein” to an insulting variation of my last name and the country Bangladesh. My mother liked to call me by a diminution of my first name. At age I respectfully asked to be called by my full first name.
