I’ve always said every era has its good and bad music and the good music from any era will always survive…but I’ve had to make an exception for the last two decades….
A mall I had a kiosk in played 6 basic Christmas songs, different artists but the same songs. I told off the mall manager about his crap selection. He told me I didn’t know anything. Wrong thing to say. I’ve been educated. Turns out a family friend is a former exec with Muzak and explained the product is engineered for shoppers and doesn’t play identifiable content. Last thing I needed was someone looking at the ceiling and saying that’s my favorite song as they walk by my store. Also the level should be the same as the ambient, to mask not overwhelm. And when your competition has an ad playing over your speakers….
Quite often I don’t notice the music in a coffee shop or grocery store until they put on something I really do or don’t like and then it stops being background noise.

One of the good things about hearing aids. You can turn them down or off.

I have two Oldies stations; no Top 40s at all. Have you heard George Thorogood’s “Get A Haircut And Get A Real Job”? Ya oughta look that one up.
