No cold spaghetti in a school caferteria is a good reason to not eat there. Also think of it also as supporting local hardworking restaurant staff, cooks and owners trying to keep their employees working and able to put food on their tables.
At my kid’s Middle School it’s chili. Their big annual music fundraiser involves a full day devoted to performances in the gymnasium while 50/50 raffles and gift-basket auctions are running in the corner of the cafeteria. The centerpiece of it all is chili.
The first time we went, we had heard about how fantastic the chili was. The recipe had been passed down from someone who had long been involved with the school fundraiser. Now some close relation of that person was in charge and the chili was supposed to be “as wonderful as ever.”
With these expectations set in our minds, my wife and I were game to give it a go. I can’t begin to express my disappointment. This “chili” was little more than bad home-made spaghetti sauce. I don’t pretend to be an expert on chili, but this stuff makes Hormel look like gourmet food.
Fortunately, our spaghetti dinners to support the school music program were a huge success. However by the third child, I finally refused to eat there. We always had a soccer game to get to so resorted to take out. After standing in line for close to an hour, we’d have to leave for the game and/or be told they were out of food. I always paid my money though and tried to hear my child play during their 30 minutes.

To mangle a line from “Field of Dreams”: “They’ll pass over the money without even thinking about it: for it is money they have and pizzas they lack.”

What are they having? Even with drinks, $30 a person seems pretty expensive.

I love cold spaghetti. I would eat it before warm or hot spaghetti. By the way, mom is hot.
