I had a pigeon end up in my basement apartment in college. I chased it down with a bow and arrow and cooked it. Won’t do that again. The thing was nasty, and I was a poor and hungry college kid.
My dad raised pigeons as a hobby (often had entries in local pigeon shows). He’d “cull” the ones not up to show standards. We’d occasionally have squab or more commonly, if the pigeons were a little older, mom would make creamed pigeon which we’d have over her homemade baking powder biscuits (leftovers, if any, over toast for breakfast). I preferred the creamed pigeon. Nice, strong flavor since pigeon is all dark meat with a slight “game bird” taste like pheasant.

What’s wrong with pigeon? People eat squab, or they used to.
