My high school chorus was kind of like that. If you signed up, you were in. We had about 30 “sopranos” (comprising of girls who either didn’t want to learn harmony or enjoyed “hitting” the high notes, with maybe 5 actual sopranos), 8 altos, and 5 tenors & basses combined. The teacher spent so much time teaching the sopranos their part that it usually fell on me to teach the altos after he gave us one run through. One of the sopranos was so bad, I was the only one who could stand next to her and still hold my part…yet she was always hyper-critical of the other singers. If anyone complained about her, she’d whine that they were picking on her because she was “special needs”. We DID have one of the best high school pianists in the state, tho; and one of our sopranos was incredible.
