When I lived in NYC, there were open-air Christmas tree salespeople from Thanksgiving to Christmas Eve. Royal PITA’s, the were—blocking pedestrian traffic. I never could understand why people would spend good $$$ on a tree that will just be thrown out later, when artificial ones last almost forever.
When I was a kid, we always had a real tree. My father would wait until the weekend before Christmas so that it would be “fresh”. One year he suggested getting an artificial tree. I begged him not to. I told him that I would be responsible for watering the tree and vacuuming the needles if he stuck to getting a real one. That said, we had real trees until I moved out.
Always had real trees, but after the kids moved out, it was no longer fun to decorate, so a small tabletop ceramic tree now works just fine. And just one bulb to change.
