Whenever my parents went away (which they did every Labor Day weekend), one of my grandmothers would usually stay with us, at least until I was about 16 or 17. By then, all of my older siblings were out of the house & my little brother would go stay with someone (one of my older siblings or a friend) so I’d be home alone. I always ended up sleeping on the pull-out in the living room because the thought of being upstairs alone in the house freaked me out…but I was OK downstairs.
I started babysitting a family of 4 (ages 9 months – 6 years) with the two youngest still in diapers when I was 13. Every Friday and Saturday night for $5/night. Good money at the time. Once I turned 16 and had a car of my own, which I bought with my babysitting money, the parents would go away for a week during the summer and leave me in charge of the family. I babysat until I was 18. By then, the oldest daughter was able to keep an eye on her siblings although they always had my number to call in case of emergency. The oldest daughter was one of the oldest souls I have ever met. She was way too mature for her age and very wise. They were great kids.

I’m wondering why the PreTeena strips have gotten so small? They used to be larger, and now you can hardly read them because they’re so small.
