My mom finally let me just put a handful of iceberg lettuce on a plate and eat it that way. Sometimes I’d add some french dressing but rarely. More than 60 years later, I still don’t see the problem.
I was well into adulthood when I learned not only to like dressing on salad, but also to really prefer it. About the only dressings I tolerate rather than like are tomato-based (as much as I love anything else made from tomatoes), and while I love the flavor of bleu cheese, my immune system has something against the mold in it. As far as non-leafy veg, olives taste to me like toxic waste smells, and I merely tolerate anything raw but carrots, as much as I love almost all veg cooked.

A quarter-head of iceberg lettuce and Thousand Island dressing was what constituted a salad for my father. I’m just the opposite of a picky eater…

Olives in a salad?
And don’t get me started on sundried tomatoes in some kind of oil.

Pour some ranch dressing on a head of lettuce? That’s exactly how I make a salad.
