Purposely burn your skin, then buy expensive creams to repair the damage that is done to the skin that is not reversable. At least we have sun screen lotions today.
When I was a teen in the ‘70s I would spend just about every summer day out on a lawn chair with a book, my radio, and a nice, cool beverage. I’d go back to school & kids would ask, “Didn’t you go outside at ALL???” I couldn’t tan to save my life, but I didn’t burn, either.

I was never bothered with being laid out in the sun for many an hour, until fairly recently.
Still no damage, but it does begin to sting.

I refuse to work outside between 10 am and 3 pm in order to avoid sun damage. Plenty needs doing inside, anyway.
