The only criticism I ever had of this strip was the use of the four-fingered hands. The characters have realistic head-to-body proportions and a lot of detail in the faces. I don’t know why Allison Barrows decided not to give them five fingers.
The four-fingered hands work with simply-designed characters like those from The Simpsons or Family Guy. Here it looks incongruous.
The creators of “South Park” said that they set the scene for their show because they wouldn’t have to draw hands as the characters would all need to wear mittens.
Lynn from FBOFW alluded to that also. She said that she thought that drawing people’s hands with three fingers and a thumb was too simple and dumb, so her people all had the kind of hands that were in paintings.

This is still one of my favorite strips.

The characters in the cartoon “Braceface” also had four fingers. And then you have “Elfquest.”

I keep a magnifying glass next to my p/c for this strip.
