    When my daughters were that age, the only sense of “uniformity” was wearing a blue polo embroidered with the school logo. In high school, it was all black, but it could be anything: dress, skirt & top, or slacks and top.

    Our school was the Sailors. We all had to wear navy blue slacks or skirts, and white blouses/shirts. Of course, the girls all had to wear skirts; it was the fifties and sixties. =p

    When I wanted to play the trombone in elementary school, my parents got me one from the local pawn shop. Good decision as I never amounted to much of a musician.
