What I finally had to resort to, when the kid’s room door would no longer close, and the smell was permeating the rest of the house, was bringing in moving boxes, and just dumping everything in, and hauling them to the curb. Kid got the idea really quickly and does her own laundry (and puts it into the once empty drawers) without parental oversight now. The house, and especially the room, smell better now. And the kid likes having friends over again.
