@ cabalonryeI guess women are just like that. My wife suddenly got us onto a washing-by-hand kick a few months ago after we visited a friend in London who did it. Most of the time she insists on doing it herself too.
May sounds stingy (and I’m not that), but it does saves on water. We use the dishwasher in our household every 3 days. Mainly because we don’t eat much.
Actually, using the machine uses about half the water doing the dishes by hand does. And Barbara, we have a friend who also washes everything – in running water – before the puts it in the dishwasher. I’ve tried to convince her that the machine is a lot hotter and a lot more “enthusiastic” than a dishpan could ever be, but she looks at me as if I’ve taken leave of my senses
Junior should know that using a timer doesn’t guarantee getting the shot he wants. Many smart phone’s cameras can be activated remotely using Bluetooth, which can make it easier to get the picture you want.

How come they have washing machine, drier, microwave, whatever but Mom still has to wash the dishes by hand?

I wash by hand because we normally don’t use enough dishes to justify running the dishwasher, and I don’t want to pile them up until we can use it.

We have a small kitchen; no room for a dishwasher besides the old-fashioned way. We’re both fine with that.

I run the dishwasher twice a week or less. If I don’t at least rinse the dishes before stacking the washer they don’t come out clean enough for me!

Washing dishes by hand is relaxing. It’s just the initial state of the kitchen that’s disheartening.
