Isn’t the 800 pound gorilla a metaphor for one so big and powerful that he calls the shots? So this gorilla should be telling the elephant, not asking.

I just read “pink elephant in the corner” is a reference to alcohol abuse, to describe the reluctance of friends and family of an addicted person to discuss the person’s problem.
